Sustainable Groundwater Management Act - SGMA

SGMA was passed in September 2014 and is comprised of three California bills (SB 1168, AB 1739 and SB 1319).  In September 2015 SB 13 was passed to further clarify SGMA.  The Department of Water Resources - DWR provides local support for water providers through the Sustainable Groundwater Management Program - SGMP.  SGMA was adopted to require groundwater dependent regions in California to stop over-pumping of groundwater and create a balance of water pumping and recharge that is sustainable.  SGMA enables local agencies to manage groundwater basins and sets deadlines for implementation of the management of the groundwater supplies.

Wheatcraft and Associates is ready to assist water providers to

meet the requirements of SGMA.
